Housing Programs

Neighborhood Healthy Homes

The Housing Department has been focused on two levels of activity. Assisting clients with finding agencies to service their housing needs, i.e. energy assistance, emergency housing funding, home repair and directly managing the Neighborhood Healthy Homes Project (NeHHP). This project is designed to assist homeowners in the identifying and removal of asthma triggers and improve safety in the home.

The NeHHP Project began in June of 2009. To date, 300 homes took part in our threshold safety surveys, where smoke detectors, carbon monoxide monitors and child proofing kits were given out.

From this pool of assessment candidates, one hundred fifty homes will receive second and third tier interventions. One hundred homes will be designated for integrated pest management services to eradicate the presence of insects and rodents that carry allergens that trigger asthma and fifty homes will receive structural assistance towards removing moisture issues that contribute to mold, improvement of air quality with the installation of ventilation fans and other household improvements related to the removal of asthma triggers.

An Energy Efficiency audit program will also be available though Connecticut Light and Power for a limited number of homes. So Sign Up Today! It's FREE!

Senior Chore Program

BHCA Senior Chore Program is designed to remove barriers and identify resources to assist seniors in need. OSHA certified outreach staff members are on call to help seniors remove snow, leaves, and unwanted items internally and externally. In addition, the staff meets one on one with the senior to insure that all needs are identified.
